Andrew Ridgeley Opens Up About George Michael's Death

George Michael's cause of death has been revealed.

The singer was found dead on Christmas Day at his home in Goring in Oxfordshire, England.

Michael was born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou to a Greek Cypriot father and English mother in north London in 1963.

Its infectious hook aside, it would have been easy to dismiss Michael and Wham! partner Andrew Ridgeley even as this song shot to the top of the pop charts.

Following reports of the death singer's on Sunday evening, "Last Christmas" took over the number one spot on the United Kingdom charts from previous chart topper "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey, and remained at number three globally. "Careless Whisper was a big hit, but my favourite was Faith", she says.

The Last Christmas hitmaker had a well publicised battle with substance abuse.

Beloved singer George Michael of WHAM!, the '80s pop group, and many solo hits, has died at aged 53.

'I thought, "Well I'll just hold on to this, I don't have to tell them", but this is as good a time as any, ' he said in the interview. Faith was later awarded the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1989. Four different singles from the album reached #1 in the US.

George Michael touched so many people's lives. Michael, still struggling to be heard as an adult artist, opted not to appear in that video or in the video for "Freedom '90". Instead, for that video, David Fincher famously directed a number of supermodels lip-syncing Michael's words.

"I'm glad that George Michael was there because I think he was an inspiration for a lot of gay people", said Drake Jensen, an openly gay country singer.

Michael didn't release another album until 1996's Older, an album that didn't sell as well as its predecessors in the US.

As for the Beverly Hills restroom incident that resulted in his going public, Michael pleaded guilty to engaging in a lewd act in public but contended he was a victim of entrapment.

In October 2006 he pleaded guilty to driving while unfit through drugs and was banned from driving and in 2008 he was cautioned for possession of class A drugs, including crack cocaine. In 2011, after a bout with pneumonia, he spent some time in a coma and had to have an emergency tracheotomy. He released his final album Symophonica in 2014.

It's hard to know where to start with George Michael. But he was great at showing off that sort of flash and charisma, and many of his peak-era singles are efficient, precision-tooled joy machines. It was fantastic. As an out gay man, I've also come to appreciate the fearless and inspiring way that George handled his coming out in the late- '90s.
